Here at Drs. Scherr, Sheehy and Schwartz Orthodontics, we specialize in assisting patients with common problems that they may be experiencing.

There are various types of common problems that we assist with every single day. First, many people deal with an underbite. An underbite is characterized by the lower jaw extending out too far. This causes the bottom front teeth to sit in front of the upper front teeth. Having an underbite can create a “gummy” smile and protruding lips.

Second, a malocclusion occurs when the upper teeth are sitting inside of the lower teeth. This can cause tooth stratification and misaligned jaw growth. When patients have malocclusions, they must move their lower jaw forward or to the side in order to close their mouth.

Another issue can be crowding. This is when the teeth do not have sufficient room to erupt from the gums. This is the most common reason for braces. Crowding can cause your teeth to be crooked as well as many other periodontal problems.

This are just some of the common problems we treat. If you’d like to schedule an appointment, please don’t hesitate to contact us today at (516) 826-3336!
